Twenty-One – Zana

When dinner was over, the waiter cleared away our plates. “Stay as long as you like,” he told us. “You have the run of the place for the rest of the evening.”

The idea was tempting. Staying here talking with Lacey until the sun went down and came back up? I couldn’t think of many things I’d like better.

But there was one other thing, and if she happened to be in the mood for it, I definitely wanted it more than talking.

“Do you want to come back to my place?” I asked innocently. “We could check out Unheard Music.”

Her eyes searched mine, and I could tell she’d seen right through the flimsy cover story. She opened her mouth, then closed it and bit her lip. “Are you sure you’re up for watching that?” she finally asked. “From what I’ve heard about that show, it might be tough to watch in your condition.”

“Why would it be tough?” I asked, widening my eyes at her. “I’ll just be lying there watching it.” Wait, did that sound like I didn’t want to do anything to her? Because I did, I definitely did. “I mean, aside from when you’re watching it.”

A smile crept across her face. “Wouldn’t we both be watching it, anyway? Isn’t that the point?”

I stared at her. “Okay, I’m confused. What are you talking about?”

“TV, of course. Why? Did you mean something else?”

If I could’ve shaken my head, I would’ve. “No more games. You’re coming home with me.”

“Yes, ma’am.”

Jason drove us back, and he was smart enough to realize we needed some privacy. “I’ll be in the guest room. Ring the bell if you need anything.”

“Actually, I think you’ll be better off downstairs,” I said. “I’ll call your phone if I need you.”

He cleared out, and Lacey and I were alone – the way we’d been every day for three weeks straight, and yet it felt completely different this time around.

She hurried around the room, turning the lights off and the TV on while I clambered into bed. I left space for her to sit beside me on my left, and when she climbed in next to me, I dared to put my good hand on her thigh.

A little gasp came out of her, and I worried I’d done too much, too soon – but then her fingers laced through mine, and both of our breathing settled as the first episode of the show came on.

We watched for about three minutes, and then I squeezed her thigh gently, and then she climbed on top of me, straddling me as she kissed me again. My mind swirled as her lips brushed mine. This felt even better than it had before, maybe because I knew it wasn’t a fluke this time. She wanted to kiss me, and if she was doing it twice, that might mean she’d do it again and again.

Her hands crept down to my waist, and we both sighed out loud as skin met skin. A fire was starting in my core, burning for her to touch me everywhere.
